History and achievements: Siddaganga Institute of Technology was established in the year 1963 and is one among these 125 institutions. SIT is offering 14 undergraduate programmes and 9 post graduate programmes. More than 4000 students are currently pursuing their studies in the institute. 15 departments of the institute are recognized as Research Centres by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. 187 Research scholars are pursuing Ph.D. programme in these centres. University Grants Commission, New Delhi, Government of Karnataka and Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi have granted autonomous status to our institute from the academic year 2007-08. The institute has experienced, qualified and devoted faculty members (about 310) and 143 of them have Ph.D. from reputed institutions like IISc, Bangalore, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati and others. Another 68 of our faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. programme at various reputed institutions. Faculty members have considered research as an integral part of teaching and are actively engaged in research and pursuing sponsored research projects from DRDO, DST, ISRO, AICTE, VGST and others, the total funding being Rs.100 million. The research work and project works carried out by the faculty and students has resulted in good publications in conferences and refereed journals. The faculty members are closely interacting with DST, BARC, ISRO, DRDO and other premier R&D institutions. The institute is renowned for excellence in technical education and has high institutional values. Most of the UG programmes have been accredited by the NBA, New Delhi for the 4th cycles. The institute has been accredited by NAAC with ՙA՚ grade.
